Legendary South African batsman AB de Villiers expressed disappointment with the truncated India-South Africa Test series, attributing the limited number of matches to the global prominence of T20 cricket. De Villiers, on his YouTube channel, voiced his concerns, stating that the absence of a third Test in the series is indicative of something being "wrong."
He emphasized the need for changes in order to determine the best Test team globally and laid blame on the influence of T20 cricket worldwide. The Test series between India and South Africa recently concluded in a 1-1 draw, facing criticism for its brevity.
De Villiers further commented on the Proteas' selection for the New Zealand tour, consisting of only two Tests and coinciding with the second season of SA20. He highlighted the pressure on Test cricket, indicating that the entire cricketing system is leaning towards T20 formats.
With the Proteas naming a squad featuring several uncapped players, De Villiers remarked on the impact of this shift, noting that players, boards, and coaches are gravitating towards formats with higher financial incentives, ultimately affecting the landscape of Test and ODI cricket.
